OMALWEENDO SAFARIS

FOR THE ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME
LUDERITZ TO WALVIS BAY
The Route
Day One:
After breakfast we leave Luderitz and after 30km on the tar road we turn into the desert. Tyres will be deflated to ± 0.9 bar (depends on the baggage), then we drive through the most beautiful mountains and dunes and the first dunes will be tackled. Everyone will be assisted throughout the dune driving process (communication radio). Camp near Silvia Hill area is reached and we put up our camps and the fire will be lit. Those that want to wash/shower can do so, there will be warm water. The rest will make themselves comfortable around the fire and wait for supper. Have a nice rest because tomorrow is a new day with new adventures and pleasures.

Day Two:
After a nice healthy breakfast and the camps are taken down we drive further. Driving past Suzie the well-known flat nose lorry, the bulldozer and the Khoi San are things that will be done before we get to the next camping place. The tents will be put up, bodies will be cleaned, eat and be sociable. By this time there will be lots to talk about.

Day Three:
The same will be done as the previous mornings and then we will go into the dunes and then down to the sea. There are very big dunes waiting and everyone will concentrate because this is Heavy Dune Driving at its best. The experience of the previous two days will help a lot and we will drive in the direction of Meob Bay, sleep under the stars and the fire will be burning while we wait for supper.

Day Four:
After breakfast we drive further and the dunes open up. Meob Bay will be reached, water will be collected at the pit and we will drive on the beach. We will have lunch on the beach. In the early 1900s they were digging actively for diamonds between Meob and Conception Bay. The old towns, Holsatia, Charlottenfelder and Grillenberger, which were abandoned will be visited. These towns were abandoned because it was too expensive to take all the equipment out of the desert. We arrive at the camp and will make ourselves comfortable around the fire while we are waiting for supper.

Day Five:
After breakfast we will driving north along the beach in the direction of Sandwich Bay and two shipwrecks Eduard Bohlen and Shawnee will be visited and the interesting history about these two will be unfolded. Lunch and then along the beach past Langewant. This is where the massive dunes run into the sea and it must be 100% low tide before we can get through. After this we drive into the dunes, and here the dunes are getting bigger and bigger. All the experience from the past days will now be tested to the extreme in the dunes.  The last evening in the dunes and for old time's sake we will enjoy our evening next to the fire, while waiting for supper, after a hard day's 4X4. A good nights rest before we take the long road to Walvisbay.

Day Six:
After breakfast we go to the biggest dunes in the Namib, Slipfaces, the highest and that roars when you drive down it. The view from these massive dunes over Sandwich Bay is breathtaking. On the one side you have the sea and on the other the dunes, sand and more sand. Lunch in Walvisbay where this whole adventure ends. Tyres pumped, last photos taken and then the big goodbye until we meat again one day maybe in the dunes of the Namib dessert.

Important ! The programme of everyday can be changed because the whole programme works around the tides, whether it is high or low-tide. The tides will determine on which of the roads we will be able to drive.
