PLANNING IS COMPLETED, THE ROUTE IS LAID OUT !
FROM FEB/MARCH OF 2011 YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GO ON A TOUR TO THE KUNENE RIVER MOUTH VIA THE COASTAL PARKS.
THIS TOUR WILL START IN SWAKOPMUND AND WILL BE ALL ALONG THE SKELETON COAST TO THE KUNENE RIVER MOUTH, FROM THERE THE TOUR WILL TURN INLAND AND THE TOUR WILL END IN OUTJO.
THIS WILL GIVE YOU THE OPPERTUNITY TO EITHER RETURN HOME OR CONTINUE ON TO VISIT THE ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
The Route
Day 1
We start early out of Swakopmund and we will end the day in Mowe bay. the distance travelled is +- 450 km. We will fill up on fuel in Terrace bay as this will be the last fuelling point for the next 750 km.
Day 2
We travel Mowe bay to Angrafria - distance of +- 115 km
Day 3
We travel Angrafria to Mouth of the Kunene river - distance of +- 140 km
Day 4
We semi re-trace our route back to Angrafria - distance of +- 140 km
Day 5
We travel Angrafria to Sesfontein - distance of +- 350 km. Here we will get a change to fill up on much needed fuel. We will overnight at Warmquelle, an oasis with a warm and clean swimming hole and privately operated camping spot.
Day 6
We travel Sesfontein to Outjo - distance of +- 350 km, where we will finally say our goodbye.
TOTAL DISTANCE TRAVELLED +- 1600 KM
THINGS TO LOOK FOR AND PLACES WE VISIT
Look out for the famous desert elephants, giraffe, gemsbok, springbuck, the elusive strandjut, and jackal. We will see lots of crocs at the river mouth and have a change to also see desert lions.
On this tour the vast open spaces and isolation will make you feel if you are the only people on this earth. This coupled with the stars you can just about touch and move will make this a once in a life time experience.
We will visit the wreck of the Ventura bomber that crashed during the rescue attempt of the Dunedin Star, and will see the graves of Sir Charles Elliot's seamen that also died in this rescue attempt.
We will visit Kaapfria with it's thousands and thousands of seals and stop at Rockypoint.
We will also spend time at the Hoarosib and Khumib rivers.
As the tour ends in Outjo you will also have the oppertunity to experience the Kaokoland with it's breathtaking scenery and world famous Owahimba people
